Socialist Women for Justice
Bloggers needed! It is time for all good women to come to the aid of the party! This is a time when capitalists can find little to say in defense of their system. The term 'market forces' has become as old fashioned as the word 'faith' as an explanation of a belief. Market forces are the reason we are now on the verge of recession. Express your views.

I suppose if they say market forces enough then we will believe that is wasn't anything to do with greed and dishonesty

Around 2006 I met a slick finance adviser who classed himself a 'mover and shaker'. Alas, I (as did many others) got swept up in his enthusiasm and we invested in his 'property leveraging scheme'. 18 months or so down the track the subprime-mortgage debacle unraveled and the wool was yanked off the flock's eyes. It also became obvious that we too had been sold up the river by a yuppy desperate to climb the greasy pole of success and who didn't care about the collateral damage. When the scheme went belly-up, I reported this 'cowboy' finance broker/adviser to ASIC, ACCC, Office of Fair Trading etc regarding his dubious strategies which ultimately lead to the deterioration the my nest egg. The regulatory bodies agreed that what he was doing was borderline unethical, but not illegal, so they couldn't take action at the time. As we all now know, he was just one of many in the finance industry worldwide who were pushing limits. Consequently, when I hear that a business is 'creative' and 'progressive', I get suspicious and I find myself growing cynical and critical; I'd promised myself to never become a 'Grumpy Old Women' but I think it is now inevitable... Anyway, in conclusion, due to the global financial meltdown and the 'awareness' of the greed and dishonesty which lead to it, I suspect the regulatory bodies are finally investigating my 'cowboy'; not because they have told me they have the power to bridle the unbridled, but because of the 'harassment' mail I've been receiving on a regular basis from an anonymous party over the last 6 weeks! - If ASIC don't have the nerve to do anything, I will have to take matters in to my own hands and do the unthinkable - Let his tires down!
ReplyDeleteWas this person operating under a financial advisors license with authority deputised to him by a financial services company?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was first 'coached' by Property Secrets they were only a new business and did not yet have a website. In those early days I didn't even think to ask if they had a financial adviser's license. However, now they are more established and have obviously needed to dot their I's and cross their T's I noticed there is a disclaimer in the Terms and Conditions section of their website which reads as follows: (The Owner is not in the business of providing professional advice and gives no warranty, guarantee or representation about the accuracy, reliability or timeliness or otherwise, of the information contained on the Website and/or linked sites on the WWW. More specifically, the Owner is not a financial adviser and does not profess to give any financial advice to you). It bothers me that one can simply add these few words in small print, well after a lot of damage has already been done, and indemnify themselves...
ReplyDeleteAs an innocent as far as finacial transactions go I would have thought that Australia would have built-in protection for the average investor. Is this not so?
ReplyDeleteWhere would we be without a good war? Any answers?
ReplyDeleteI applaude the 4 women speaking out on 4 Corners tonight about the antics of sportsmen and in particular the culture in the rugby league world about the use of women. I suspect the usual reaction of depicting the women as "loose", so therefore they got want they deserved. I think it is time for all women and decent men to say enough is enough and we will not accept this attitude anymore.

I have dream; if that young woman had suddenly turned into an Amazon and treated each man as he had treated her would they also say they 'asked for it'? Would they really think that treating another human being, particularly a vulnerable person,as less than nothing, in any way, elevates each to some kind of god? As far as the word'consensual'? Consensual to what? One man, two men or a hundred men?
ReplyDeleteIn NSW we have the Government closing public schools and cutting jobs to save money and yet they can find billions of dollars to stage a car race to be held in Sydney. I suppose if we don't have well education children at least they will be able to make millions driving a car around a race track. Where is the logic in that?
