Socialist Women for Justice
Socialist Women for Justice is a 'ginger' group connected by email across Australia. Some are members of the Australian Labor Party but many are not. All are interested in lobbying governments on vital issues. In existence for two years the Group added its voice on various issues including the plight of David Hicks, refugees and mandatory detention, nursing homes, health, domestic violence and children 'at risk'. The latter is our current issue and we are now awaiting further discussion with the Minister for Education. While distance makes meeting difficult a breakfast is held in Taree, NSW once a month at a local cafe for those finding themselves within the vicinity. The first meeting next year is Jan 11, Raw Sugar Cafe Taree 2430 at 8.30am.

2009 is shaping up to be the same as last year, wars, more wars and economic downturns. What are we paying our Leaders for?

The scare campaign has started again - the boat people are coming! I thought that we would finally be able to put that dark period of our history behind us with the defeat of the Howard Gov but, alas no. I still have to listen to the likes of Julie Bishop, Joe Hockey and the rest of that - why is it that we have no borders when it comes to making money, but when it comes to looking after someone fleeing their country for whatever reason we suddenly have borders?

What does it take to get governments to listen about the neglect, physical, mental and sexual abuse of children before they will act? The violence that is "the norm" for these children is frightening. The longer it takes for someone to do something the worse it is going to get.
